Heard this afternoon that Joe’s dog Sonja passed away. Pic above is of a 2003 Sonja, trying to wrap her head around the strange costumes at Joe’s Halloween party. Here she was during my trip down to Florida in 2008:

Hard to guess how Joe’s feeling right now. Gotta figure he’s pretty upset. Not a “me level” of upset, mind you. I don’t handle death well. If it were me I’d be curled up in the back of my garage, drowning in a sea of tears (the drowning part isn’t that difficult as I think one time I almost drowned while pouring vinegar onto my fries). A “Joe level” of upset could be sitting naked in front of the TV in a dimly lit room watching re-runs of Punky Brewster and repeatedly flicking the tip of his flaccid dick. I dunno.

In all seriousness, I’m very sorry to hear about this. My memories of Sonja are limited. I recall lending Joe and Beth our large metal crate when they first got her. Apparently when they left her alone she’d chew the couch to pieces and smash her head through the glass of their front door like that old lady at the end of The Happening. The crate didn’t help. She was smart enough to defeat the latch and get out at will. Very impressive. One time I couldn’t undo the zipper on my pants for like 45 minutes.

Anyway, I’m pretty sure she had a good life. She got to experience the lows of living in the skug hollows of Fort Erie and the highs of living in a Utopian Florida. Rest in peace, you fluffy, window smashing death dealer.
